Research Interests:
Dr. Sean Smith’s research focuses on understanding Earth surface processes that shape and change modern landscapes, quantifying watershed processes linked to socio-ecological services, and development of sustainability solutions to modern watershed, river, lake, and coastal management problems. A primary objective of his research is advancement of the prediction and mitigation of environmental impacts across varied spatial and time scales to guide watershed management and sustainability solutions. He co-leads the Watershed Process and Estuary Sustainability Research Group (WPES) with collaborators from the Dept. of Civil and Environmental Engineering, other UMaine departments, and professional engineers and scientists from federal and state government agencies.
